A standard queen mattress measures 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. A Moovalot 5x8 trailer is 60 inches wide and 96 inches long. A queen mattress fits with 16 inches of length to spare.
What about a king mattress?
A king is 76 inches wide — wider than the 60-inch trailer. Stand it on its side (about 12–14 inches thick, 80 inches tall), lean it against the trailer wall, and strap it in. Works fine.
What about the box spring?
Queen box spring: 60" × 80". Lays flat in the trailer alongside the mattress. Load box spring first (flat on the bed), mattress on top. Strap them together.
How to load a mattress
- Get a mattress bag. $5–$10 at any moving supply store. Protects from dirt and moisture in the open trailer.
- Slide, don't lift. One person inside pulling, one outside pushing.
- Lay it flat. Don't transport a mattress on its side for long periods — it can damage the internal spring structure.
- Strap it down. Ratchet strap across the center. On the highway, add a cargo net over the top.
Can I fit more than a mattress in one trip?
Yes. With mattress and box spring stacked, there's still vertical space. A headboard, lamps, and boxes can fit on top (secured carefully), or use the space beside the stack for a dresser or nightstands.
