Whether you can drop a trailer at a different location depends entirely on which company you rent from.
Moovalot: round-trip only
Moovalot trailers must be returned to the same location where you picked them up. The trailers are permanently assigned to specific host business locations. When your rental ends, drive back to the same lot, unhitch, and tap End Rental in the app.
This works well for the most common use cases: furniture pickups, apartment moves within a city, junk runs, landscaping hauls. You drive out, do the job, come back.
U-Haul: one-way rentals available
U-Haul offers one-way trailer rentals β pick up at one location and drop off at a different one, sometimes in a different city or state. Useful for long-distance relocations. One-way rentals cost more because U-Haul has to reposition equipment.
When does one-way matter?
- Moving to a different city or state and not returning.
- Dropping off items in a different part of the city without backtracking.
When round-trip is fine (most cases)
- Couch pickup from a seller β bring it home β return trailer
- IKEA run β take furniture home β return trailer
- Moving apartment to apartment in the same city
- Junk removal β dump β return trailer
How far is the return drive for Moovalot?
Moovalot has 22+ locations throughout the Houston area. Most customers are within 5β10 minutes of a pickup location. The app shows your trailer's home location at all times.
What if you don't return the trailer?
Leaving a trailer somewhere other than its home location keeps the rental active and billing. Always end the rental in the app and confirm you're at the correct location before driving away.
